With that in mind I thought I'd post a few of my favourites from the wedding of Samantha and Aaron that took place late summer at Upwaltham Barns in West Sussex, a stunning setting on the south Downs. A wonderful day of beautiful weather and lots of laughter that they shared with family and close friends. Aaron arriving in a new Claas tractor gave it an unusual twist.

Flood waters along the Arun valley. http://www.photographersussex.com/blog/2014/2/flood-waters I have walked and photographed Sussex for a good few years now and I cannot remember such a a prolonged period of flooding through the Arun valley, with no likelihood of the water receding anytime soon. The quantity of rainfall that we are experiencing at present was brought home to me over the weekend. I visited Burpham on Friday morning and was delighted to find a pool of flood water beautifully reflecting a line of trees. With a wonderful procession of clouds providing a colourful backdrop it was enough to get me out of bed early on Sunday morning to see what the dawn would bring. Only 48 hours later the only way I would have been able to reproduce the image would have been from a boat.

As I am about to embark on a three year project with the RSPB, based around the Arun and Rother rivers, I thought I would process these images for a presentation on Thursday. I will post details about the project soon.

Flooded Wildbrooks. http://www.photographersussex.com/blog/2014/2/flooded-wildbrooks As the rain continues to fall I thought I'd post this image I took a couple of weeks back whilst out walking with the boys. It's hard to believe that beyond the fence should be fields, I've never seen so much flood water over the brooks. An image I quite enjoy as a father and a photographer, a grab shot that I think works well and for me what photography is all about.

Sussex gallery updates. http://www.photographersussex.com/blog/2014/2/sussex-gallery-updates I have been fortunate enough to have had quite a bit of interest in my images over the last few weeks, but it has made me realise how far behind I am with image updating on my website. Therefore there will be several new(ish) images making their way onto here over the coming days. I have just added a few and of course Waltham Brooks has to feature having become very much my local patch. Being only a short drive over the hill I often find myself there, it really is quite a magical place to be in the dawn light and as the trains rush past I'm sure it lifts the spirits of many a bleary eyed London bound commuter.

A good start. http://www.photographersussex.com/blog/2014/1/a-good-start

It's good to be back out in the landscape after being laid up for two months following a foot operation. Last Sunday I was lucky enough to find myself at Waltham Brooks during one of the most spectacularly colourful sunrises I've seen in a while. The still flood waters acting as a perfect mirror to the stunning sky. A good start to the year with hopefully more of the same to follow over the coming months.

A successful Year. http://www.photographersussex.com/blog/2013/11/a-successful-year Well my first post in a long time, more a man of pictures than words I suppose. It has been a good year though. Like many people I don't really feel comfortable about advertising my successes, immodesty is not really in my nature. Landscape is one of the most difficult genres of photography to succeed in but this year I have featured in 7 of the 13 issues of "Outdoor Photography" magazine, one of the last to pay its contributors a proper rate. I confess that I feel quietly pleased with myself.

The December issue article below.

Landscape Photographer Sussex. http://www.photographersussex.com/blog/2013/5/landscape-photographer-sussex One of my favourite images from last year has just been my highest earning image to date for a single sale. That aside it was taken on a particularly beautiful August morning on Iping Common whilst the heather was in full bloom. I remember being struck by a scene that could have been captured hundreds of years ago. For me, mornings like this really are unbeatable and there is no finer way to start the day.

I've also just received a commission from Outdoor Photography magazine to write an article on Iping Common and this image may also be included.

Sussex Wedding Photographer. http://www.photographersussex.com/blog/2013/5/sussex-wedding-photographer I had my first visit to Eades House in Chichester for a while and it was a great privilege to be the photographer for Vicky and Tom as they celebrated their wedding day. The weather was very kind but I was also able to take advantage of the lovely interior of the house. A couple of my favourites from the day are posted below.

Blue-Tailed Damselflies. http://www.photographersussex.com/blog/2013/3/blue-tailed-damselflies My first foray into insect photogrpahy last year produced some rather well recieved damselfly images. I've literally caught the bug (sorry) now and invested in a better macro lens so I can really annoy them this year. Thanks to Tracey for the use of her pond, hopefully she'll let me back this year.

Wedding Photography, Arundel Town Hall. http://www.photographersussex.com/blog/2013/3/wedding-photography-arundel-town-hall I have photographed weddings at Arundel Town Hall on many occassions and find it a very photographer friendly venue not least because of the huge windows and therefore great light. I had the pleasure of sharing Beth and Dax's wedding with them last year and wanted to post a couple of examples of an aspect of wedding photography that is so important and that is just capturing moments as they happen, with no intervention from me. These are classic examples and although the image in front of the tree was whilst I was giving some direction, just stepping back for a few moments I was able to let them just enjoy their own company. Many couples have remarked how they enjoyed their time with me, away from their guests, often before the reception begins. A few moments to catch their breath before the party begins.

Keeping it local. http://www.photographersussex.com/blog/2013/3/keeping-it-local My landscape work this year is going to follow on from last year in that it will be centred around Sussex. With an increasing interest in my home county images, and hopefully more time, it is a personal project I am now very much engrossed in and committed to. This image taken at South Stoke is very much a case in point. I enjoyed a wonderful morning and still managed to get to Ewan's class assembly on time.South Stoke.

New website finally live. http://www.photographersussex.com/blog/2013/3/new-website-finally-live Well it's only taken about a year but my new site is finally live today. This is also the first wedding image from last year to make it onto the website too. It seems I have quite a bit of updating to do. That's the thing though, to be honest I'd rather be out capturing the images than sitting here writing about them. I've vowed to be more disciplined with my updating now as it is so much easier for me. Lot's of exciting landscape images on the go at the moment and a project with the RSPB in the offing later this summer. Thanks for looking and please feel free to contact me for a no obligation quotation.
